ELIZABETH B. STOVER  STAUNTON, VA… Elizabeth K. Barkley Stover, 90, of Staunton, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Augusta Health. She was born June 8, 1926, in Staunton, a daughter of the late Jesse J. and Helen V. (Jordan) Barkley. She was a member of Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church where she taught in the Sunday School Nursery Class for 33 years and involved in the Echoes Group.  She was also a life member of the United Methodist Women.  Elizabeth was involved in the AARP Group and Red Hatters. Elizabeth was a life member of Girl Scouts, a Cub Scout Den Mother for a dozen years, and a Girl Scout leader for 14 years where she served as Assistant Director of Girl Scout Day Camp for several years and was known as “Smokey” by the campers.  She served as Junior Girl Scout consultant and trainer of new leaders.  In 1974 she was cited by the Staunton News Leader as “Volunteer of the Week”.  In 1975 Elizabeth was presented the highest award bestowed on a Girl Scout Leader being the “Thanks Award”.  She was preceded death by a son, Raymond H. Stover and a sister, Betty V. Barkley. Family members include three sons, Fred Nelson Stover and wife, Brenda, John J. Stover, Sr., and Joe L. Stover and wife, Jean; daughter, Laura S. Johnson and husband, Charlie; nine grandchildren, Michelle R. Stover, Jennifer H. Rousseau and husband, Brian, Elizabeth A. Stover, Doug Huffman and wife, Christy, John J. Stover, Jr. and wife, Elizabeth, Amy J. Stewart and husband, Wade, Candice L. Stover, Adam W. Johnson, and Brandie S. Roberts and husband, Chuck; 10 great grandchildren, Joe A. Rousseau, Jacob A. Rousseau, Connor J. Stewart, Jessica A. Rousseau, Landyn R. Jordan, Sophia A. Stewart, Declan A. Stover, Tanner J. Hudnell, Marley A. Fulton, and Willow B. M. Stover; sister, Jane B. Sellers and husband, Harold; two brothers, Herbert Barkley and wife, Peggy, and William D. Barkley; nieces, Brenda B. Fetzner and husband, Ed, and Rachel S. Hawkins and husband, Tony; nephews, S. Greg Sellers and wife, Robbin, Mike Barkley, Jeff Barkley, and Wayne Barkley; and a great niece, Raven Barkley. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, 3, 2017 in Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert W. Sharp.  Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 2017 in the Henry Funeral Home.
