Ellen Overton Holtz

ELLEN O. HOLTZ STAUNTON, VA…Ellen Overton Holtz, 76, passed from this life April 16, 2016.  She was born in Staunton on January 30, 1940, the daughter of Oscar O. and Cora Taylor Holtz. Preceded in death by her parents, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family.                 Ellen was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and Mary Baldwin College and joined the Admissions staff of the college following graduation, eventually serving as Director of Financial Aid for many years.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in Staunton and prior to health challenges was very active and served in many capacities in the Sunday School, youth and missionary programs, and choirs.  She was a member of the Staunton Choral Society for many years.                 Ellen had a great love for knowledge was an avid learner during her whole lifetime.  She loved also---in no particular order---books, music (especially opera), the beauty of nature, her many, many friends......and cats.  Although in many ways a very private person, Ellen had many friends in many places and never ceased to be interested in what was going on in their lives.  She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved the extraordinary, special person she was.                 At Ellen’s request, the body is to be cremated, there will be no visitation, and there will be a private graveside service at St. John’s Reformed Church at Middlebrook.                 Memorials may be made to the Television Ministry at First Baptist Church, 406 W.
