EMMA JEAN HEMP DESPER STAUNTON, VA… Emma Jean (Hemp) Desper, 81, wife of Glenn R. Desper, of 314 Hoover Street, died Monday, June 18, 2018, in Augusta Health, Fishersville, surrounded by family. She was born January 19, 1937, in Augusta County, a daughter of the late Leonard Fitzhugh and Eula Susan (Gladwell) Hemp. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.In addition to her husband of 61 years, family members include a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Marie Desper and Timothy Good of Mount Sidney; a son, Richard Scott Desper of Buffalo Gap; four grandchildren, Laura Ashley Good, Bradley Tyler Good, Ryan Scott Desper, and Taylor Brooke Desper; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Baker; and a special friend, Charlotte Powers. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Leonard Hemp and Elwood Franklin Hemp; and five sisters, Nila Schapansky, Faye Lynn, Lena Arehart, Ann Verduyn, and Clara Botkin. A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2018 in Thornrose Cemetery by the Pastor Bobby Campbell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Wildlife Center of Virginia, P.O. Box 1557, Waynesboro, VA 22980, as she always loved hummingbirds and squirrels.
