COLIN E. ARMSTRONG SWOOPE, VA Colin Eugene Armstrong, 69, husband of Joyce Armstrong, 2217 Hewitt Road, died Monday, September 30, 2013, in the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville. He was born December 13, 1943 in Deerfield, a son of the late Arlie B. and Virginia Florence (Armstrong) Armstrong. Prior to retirement in 1999, Mr. Armstrong was employed by Western State Hospital. He was a member of Linden Heights Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. In addition to his wife of 47 years, family members include two daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberley Dawn and Carlton White of Staunton and Stephanie Elaine and Todd Fitzgerald of Greenville; two brothers, Ronald B. Armstrong of McKinley and Willard Armstrong of Danville; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mary Sue and Gene Card of Crimora, Mona Gay Campbell of Waynesboro, and Jane and Ronald Miller of Wisconsin; and three special grandchildren, Dustin Todd Fitzgerald of Greenville, Dakota Marcus White and Logan Aaron White, both of Staunton. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Nelson L., Cleland B., Robert Armstrong; and a sister, Ellen Rhinhart. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, October 4, 2013, in Deerfield Community Cemetery by the Rev. Luke Smith. The family will meet at 9:45 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Dustin and Todd Fitzgerald, Dakota, Logan, Carlton, and Tommy White. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, October 3, 2013, in the Henry Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
