EVERETTE W. WOOD VERONA, VA Everette Wilson Wood, 74, of 24 Center Street, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at his residence. He was born August 29, 1939, in Hix, West Virginia, a son of the late William E. and Bessie (Grimmett) Wood. Prior to retirement, Mr. Wood was employed by the Staunton News Leader as a copy editor with 33 years of service. He was a member of the Salvation Army Church. Family members include his step-mother, Juanita Wood of Farmville; a son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Kay Wood of Frederick, Maryland; a daughter, Janet Easter of Stuarts Draft; a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Sharon Wood of Ballard, West Virginia; two sisters, Lillie Lotts of Staunton and Nancy Leanard of Brunswick, Maryland; three half-sisters, Regina Williams, Brenda Hochstether, and Diana Hern; 11 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and his companion, Betty Howdyshell and daughter, Tracy. He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Wood; two sisters, Joyce Wiseman and Bernice (Wood) Patterson; and a half-brother, Charles Wood. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014, in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by Major Sam Hearn. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2014 in the funeral home.
