Mary Emily (Eakle) Morgan, 98, of Staunton, VA, died peacefully at her residence on February 6, 2020. She was born July 21, 1921 and is predeceased by an older brother, Robert Grandin Eakle, and a twin brother, Walter Rogers Eakle, Jr.

Emily graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1937 and Mary Baldwin College in 1942 then taught for several years in Greenville, VA before coming to the Staunton school system. She taught at the elementary level for 32 years enjoying 4th grade where she was able to express her love for Virginia and Staunton history.

In 1949 Emily married the handsome WWII veteran, James Edward Morgan, and spent 40 years together living and working in Staunton. They shared a passion for travel and the great outdoors, as well as deep devotion to their family and Christian faith.

Emily was an avid volunteer in her church, Central United Methodist Church, and the community. She delivered Meals On Wheels and was a board member for many years. After retirement she led school tours through the Frontier Culture Museum and worked in the after school tutoring program. She was a long time member of the College Park Garden Club, Delta Kappa Gamma International Society for Women Educators, and enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, and exercise classes. Family and friends remember Emily as a kind and compassionate person.

Emily is survived by two daughters, Alice Morgan Konchuba and Susan Halley Morgan and predeceased by her daughter, Carol Emily Yates. Her loving family includes three sons–in–law, six grandchildren, one great-grandson and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A private graveside service took place at Thornrose Cemetery on February 8, 2020. Those desiring please make memorial contributions to Central United Methodist Church, 14 N. Lewis St, Staunton, VA 24401.
