Ernest Boszormenyi Boone

ERNEST B. BOONE STAUNTON, VA… Ernest Boszormenyi Boone of Staunton, died suddenly and unexpectedly at his son’s residence in Fredericksburg on the evening of Wednesday, March 8, 2017. The son of Klara Chohany and Pal Boszormenyi, he was born on October 2, 1917 in Debrecen, Hungary. Ernest served as Lieutenant in the Hungarian Army during World War II. After earning a law degree, he served with distinction as both a judge and lawyer. Ernest’s law credentials were revoked by the Communists in 1956 during the Hungarian Revolution and he served in an administrative position at a cheese factory until his dangerous and brave departure with family from their homeland. Once in the United States, they settled in Brooklyn, New York and “Americanized” the Boszormenyi family name to Boone. Ernest wrote in 2002 in a brief, handwritten account of their escape, “We thank you America for the peaceful 45 years. God bless the United States and her people. His career path in New York culminated into a position in finance with the Chase Manhattan Bank until his retirement, after which he became a real estate investor. Ernest was husband to his beloved wife, Catherine (nee`) Pozsgay who died in 2007 and father to one surviving son, Robert Boone (Virginia) of Fredericksburg; and departed son, Gene Boone. He is grandfather to Kenneth (Kelly) and Nathan (Erin) Boone and great-grandfather to Isabel, Aoife, Anelle, and Auden. Ernest  was a man of remarkable intelligence, wit, and determination. He would like sincere gratitude from his family to go to his personal physician and advocate Dr. Stephanie Pitsilos, devoted caregivers, Szilva Harmon and Peggy Spechio, and Linda Boone. He will be sadly missed by fellow residents at Gypsy Hill Place, friends and employees at The Senior Center, and his many chess opponents. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 16, 2017 in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Russell Heinrich. Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
