Fannie Lee Quick

FANNIE LEA SANDRIDGE QUICK BARREN RIDGE, VA After a long and productive life, Fannie Lea Quick, 98, died peacefully at 1:20 a.m. Thursday, Ocotber 20, 2011 at the Shenandoah Nursing Home in Fishersville, VA. Fannie was born on August 2, 1913 in Sugar Hollow in Albemarle County, VA. She was the daughter of Steven Gray Sandridge and May Etta Frances (Crickenberger) Sandridge. On December 25, 1929 at the age of sixteen, Fannie married Henry Jackson Quick. She had worked at Stehli Silk Mills in Waynesboro since she was thirteen and continued this employment for a number of years after being married to help provide for their family during the depression. Fannie was a homemaker, a wonderful mother and a lifetime member of the Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren. She was fully committed to Christ and supported the church through her ninety-seventh years, with her regular attendance and her resources. When younger, she taught Sunday school, was a member of the women's fellowship and participated in numerous church workday projects. Fannie loved the out of doors and was an avid gardener with a green thumb. Her large flower gardens were a delight to all who visited or passed by. She attended to them daily with her hoe and loved to share cut flowers and new starts with others. Well known for her warm smile and sence of humor, Fannie had a propensity to offer advice and encouragement to everyone she met, based upon her life's experiences. Her advise usually focused upon perceived health issues, work simplification, personal safety, and suggestions for self improvement. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, four brothers, Norman Steven Sandridge, Guy William Sandridge, Robert Lee Sandridge and Roy Lee Sandridge; five sisters, Elisabeth Frances Sandridge, Mrs. Noble Mattie Ross, Mrs. Ruby Irene Gilbert, Mrs. Lottie Bell Rankin, and half-sister, Mrs. Lillian Sandridge Bowman. Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Vivian Lee Taylor Losh of Barren Ridge and three sons and their wives, Charles Austin and Elaine Harlow Quick of Grottoes, Stoney Richardson and Judith Harris Quick of South Carolina, and Douglas Robert and Jill Hazard Quick of Midlothian, VA. Also eleven grandchildren, five step great grandchildren, five step great great grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Virginia Arlene Reid of Waynesboro. The family will receive friends at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton on Saturday, October 22, 2011 between 6 and 8 p.m. On Sunday, following a private burial service, a memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren, with Rev. Galen Combs officiating. We offer our sincere thanks to Dr. Lagrua, Dr. Raynor, the caregivers at Home Instead and the Shenandoah Nursing Home for their support during mother's latter years. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren building fund.
