FLORENCE B. PFEIFFER STAUNTON, VA Florence M. Brand Pfeiffer, 91, widow of Curtis Edward Pfeiffer, Jr., died Friday morning, November 8, 2013, at Augusta Health in Fishersville. She was born in Staunton, Virginia, a daughter of the late William A. Brand and Norma Bean Brand. She was the last remaining member of her immediate family, preceded in death by her brother William F. Brand and sister Jean Brand Meyers. Graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in Staunton in 1940, she then attended Madison College (now JMU), and later graduated from Dunsmore Business College. She was a homemaker and frequently worked in the secretarial field. Mrs. Pfeiffer was a member of Second Presbyterian Church in Staunton, and during a thirty year residence with her husband and daughters in Richmond, Virginia, was a member of Forest Hill Presbyterian Church. Family members include two daughters, Kathryn P. Holsinger of Staunton and Nancy P. Walden and her husband Mack of Springfield; a grandson, J. Scott Holsinger of Reston; a granddaughter, Lauri H. Painter and her husband Chris of Wilmington, N.C.; great granddaughters Lanie K. Painter and Karlee A. Painter of Wilmington, N.C.; nephew Charles Brand, niece Susan M. Wills, nephew Don Meyers, sister-in-law Virginia C. Brand, and brother-in-law Allen W. Pfeiffer, all of Staunton. She will be well remembered by friends and acquaintances as a sweet, kind and gentle lady, and by her family as the beautiful thread which lovingly created the fabric of our family, a moral compass and role model for her children and grandchildren. Her special interests included travel, movies and Broadway musicals, bowling, crosswords, Jeopardy and Wheel, and the culinary arts. A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Monday, November 11, 2013, In Thornrose Cemetery by the Rev. Harry Johns. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. Sunday, November 10, 2013, in the Henry Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Second Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 175, Staunton, VA 24401, or to a charity of your choice.
