FRANCES S. HUMPHRIES VESUVIUS, VA… Frances Marie Sorrells Humphries, 90, of Vesuvius, and most recently a resident at the Blue Ridge Christian Home, Beulah Land Campus, in Raphine, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 2, 2016. She was born January 29, 1926, a daughter of the late Lewis Harvey Sorrells and Amanda Miller Sorrells. She was a long-time and active member of Vesuvius Baptist Church and also a member of Greenville United Methodist Church in her later years. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, along with her brother, Lewis Sorrells, Jr., and her sister, with whom she made her home for over 50 years, Delphia V. Sorrells. Frances is survived by her loving daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Otis Hinton and Janet and Ronnie Cobb of Staunton; four special grandchildren, Michelle Cobb Fitzgerald (Timmy), Jack Hinton, Angela Hinton Miller (Ryan), and Melissa Cobb; along with her cherished great grandchildren, Preston and Allison Fitzgerald, Mackenzie Hinton, and Mason and Steele Miller. Known for her crafting and handwork abilities, she was always crocheting, knitting, embroidering, or quilting a special piece for her family or friends and took great pride in making something just right for their liking. Prior to declining health, she was also known for her baking abilities and preparing special meals with her sister for her family and church family, especially at the holidays. Frances retired from Augusta Co-Op Farm Bureau and also held multiple part-time retail positions over the years. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 5, 2016 in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Bobby Berkstresser, Lee Berkstresser, Joe Fauber, Brian Carey, Mary Kay, Dale Fauber, Winfred Ramsey, and Carminia Bender. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, November 4, 2016, in the funeral home. The family would like to thank the staff of Blue Ridge Christian Home for their care and compassion over the last 13 months.
