Palmyra, VA… Francis (Frank) Harold Breen, 90, husband of Rebecca Wagner Breen, of Lake Monticello, Palmyra, died Saturday, September 15, 2018. Mr. Breen was born on February 3, 1928 in Winchester, Massachusetts to the late James Joseph and Lena Lloyd Breen.  Upon graduation from Winchester High School, Mr. Breen attended Feener Technical School and Boston Architectural Center in Boston, MA.   His employment included Charles Molloy, Woburn, MA; Haggett Store Engineering, Boston, MA; U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; and retired on May 2, 1986 from the Federal Government Civil Service while working for The Foreign Science and Technology Center in Charlottesville, VA.  Frank was a life member of The American Legion Fluvanna Post 2003.  He enjoyed recreational cattle farming, garden railroad, was a UVA sports fan, group beach trips and white water rafting.  He entered the U.S. Navy on January 26, 1946 and served in the Asiatic-Pacific theater.  He served on the vessels U.S.S. Helena and the U.S.S. Iowa.  He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and was discharged as Seaman Second Class on November 28, 1947.   Mr. Breen entered the U.S. Army on January 11, 1951 and was assigned overseas with the Eighth Army Headquarters in Korea.  In November 1951, he was assigned to the United Nations Command Advance at Munsan-ni, Korea where he was instrumental in negotiating the armistice and detailing the Demarcation Line at Pan Mun Jom.  He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the Republic of Korean Residential Unit Citation.  Mr. Breen was discharged as Sergeant on January 11, 1954.  In addition to his wife, surviving family members include a daughter, Kathleen Marie Breen Havens; a son, David Francis Breen; a brother Charles Breen; three grandchildren, Justin, Ashley and Kellie Havens.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Gertrude Jean Lanciault; six brothers, James, Henry, Thomas, William, George and Robert Breen; and a sister, Alice Breen Coolen.  A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m.,Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church Cemetery, 334 Mt. Tabor Road, Staunton, by the Reverend Lance Braun, with military honors by American Legion Post 2003.  The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 355 Rio Road West, Suite 102, Charlottesville, VA, 22901. Arrangements have been entrusted to Henry Funeral Home.
