Dr. Frank R. Southerington STAUNTON, VA Dr. Frank Rodney Southerington died at home surrounded by family on August 15, 2013. He was born on July 26, 1938 in Abbotsbury, England to Frank and Muriel (Ashelford) Southerington. He was educated at Hardye's School, Dorchester and the University of London, and earned his D.Phil. from Oxford. After teaching in Sweden and Finland, he came to Mary Baldwin in 1968. At MBC, he was professor of English, Virginia Worth Gonder Fellow in Theatre, and first director of the MLitt/MFA graduate program in Shakespeare and Renaissance Literature in Performance. He was a Thomas Hardy and August Strindberg scholar, with many published translations of both authors. He was a well-known director and actor at MBC and Oak Grove, among other theatre groups, and an avid gardener of roses. He is survived by his wife Terry; sons Tom and Paul; daughters Anna, Jennifer, and Margaret; sister Margaret; and extended family. Memorials may be made to Oak Grove Theater, P.O.
