GEORGE J. RYDER VERONA, VA George Jackson Ryder, 82, husband of Ruth (Cloninger) Campbell Ryder, of Verona, died Thursday, October 8, 2015, at Augusta Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born May 17, 1933, in Bath County, a son of the late Aubrey W. and Mary F. (Mines) Ryder. Mr. Ryder was a decorated U. S. Army veteran having served in the Korean War where he received the Bronze Service Star. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. Prior to retirement, he was employed by Western State Hospital as a CNA. He was a member of the Life Flow Pentecostal Church. In addition to his wife, family members include a sister, Barbara A. Floyd of Verona; step son, Michael Campbell; step daughter, Cathy Campbell; nieces and nephews, Sandy and Dave Shifflett, Lisa Gordon, Mike and Tracy Miller, Timothy and Kathy Floyd, Robert Floyd II, Stephen and Robin Floyd, and Dana and Mark Wade. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Jean Campbell Ryder; a brother, C. L. Ford and two sisters, Lucille Stephenson and Leta Sturms. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday (October 12, 2015) in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Rick Hanley and Rev. Edward Wood. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. Graveside military rites are provided by Staunton Augusta VFW Post 2216. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 on Sunday (October 11, 2015) in the funeral home and other times at 6 Maple Drive, Verona. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Memorials may be made to Life Flow Pentecostal Church, 12 Lincoln Avenue, Staunton, VA 24401.
