Goldie Mae (Roberts) Carter, 86, widow of Ray Dilling Carter, of Staunton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at Augusta Health.               Mrs. Carter was born on October 15, 1932 in Burnsville, Virginia, a daughter of the late Roy Cleveland and Elsie Treva (Eagle) Roberts.              Prior to retirement, she was employed by Genesco with 42 years of service.              Goldie will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She was a member of Jerusalem Chapel Church, an avid bowler for many years, enjoyed going to auctions, as she was a collector of dishes, particularly, pink depression, and loved baking, especially at the holidays. The grandkids will never forget the special peanut butter and Hershey kiss Christmas cookies that were “fought” over every year and never lasted the whole evening.              Family members include two sons and daughters-in-law, Dallin “Dale” Ray and his wife, Judith; Edward Cleveland and his wife, Nancy; three grandchildren, Treva Mae Marshall and her husband, Rusty; Shawna Lee Armstrong and her husband, David; Jason Ilo Carter and his wife, April; seven great grandchildren, Brandon Edward and Devin Ray Mauzy, Cheyenne Lee, Dillin Ive and Brayden Carter Armstrong, Jacob Ilo and Rachael Sue Carter;  two brothers, Leroy and Jerry Roberts, all of Staunton; four sisters, Mabel Phillips and Vivian Rowe, both of Staunton, Hilda Clark of Covington, and Shirley Thorpe of Churchville; numerous nephews and nieces and special friends Nancy Marshall and Marie Thomas.                   In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Kyle, Rob, Ilo and Waldo Roberts; and three sisters, Bertha Humphrey, Dorothy Milstead and Nellie Barnett.              A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, October 7, 2019 in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Dennis Sites and Pastor George Etling.  Burial will be private in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens.              The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.              The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of the Shenandoah and especially, Amy Eye, and to the staff at Royal Care for their care given to Goldie.              Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.              Henry Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements for the family.
