GORDON B. BUTTERFIELD STAUNTON, VA… Gordon Bernard Butterfield, 90, husband of Claire Ann (LaForest) Butterfield, of Staunton, died Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Avante at Waynesboro. He was born July 10, 1927 in Providence, Rhode Island, a son of the late Charles Edward and Mary (Goodwin) Butterfield. Mr. Butterfield was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in Guam during WWII. Prior to retirement, Gordon was manager and textile designer at Stillwater Mills in Augusta Springs. He attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. In addition to his wife, family members include two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Beverly Butterfield of New Market and Brian and Sarah Butterfield of Staunton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Paula Homes of Charlottesville and Richard Homes of Staunton and Gail and Don Alexander of Moneta; a sister, Diane Brosnan of Plymouth, MA; seven grandchildren, Kathryn Grisdale, Evan Butterfield, Amanda DiMeo, Megan Corbin, Samuel Butterfield, Isaac Butterfield, and Tracey Alexandrou; and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Butterfield, Ronald Butterfield, and Richard Butterfield. A private graveside service for immediate family will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 18, 2017 in Resurrection Catholic Church Cemetery in Moneta by Deacon Barry Welch.
