GRACE A. COOK STAUNTON, VA Grace Mae (Arrington) Cook, 94, widow of Houston Walton Cook, of Staunton, died Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Brightview at Baldwin Park. Grace was born May 11, 1920, in Page, West Virginia, a daughter of the late James Henry and Bonnie (Fridley) Arrington. She is survived by her daughter Sandra Kay Potter and husband, Russell, of Staunton; two sons, Alan Houston (Rick) Cook of Staunton and James Kevin Cook and wife, Diane, of Buchanan; four grandchildren, Derrick Walton Cook, Keri Kristina Coyner, Haily Summer Cook and Carly Maria Cook; and six great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Grace was employed by DuPont during World War II, and played shortstop for the company baseball team. She was a charter member of the Sarah Seaton Garden Club. She was a master gardener and an award winning flower arranger. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and arranged flowers for the church for fifty years. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2015 in Thornrose Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Henry Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, Inc., 96 Laurel Hill Road, Verona, VA 24482.
