GRACIE M. JACKSON STAUNTON, VA…Gracie McCoy Jackson, 91, wife of Lenard Gray Jackson, of Staunton, died Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Birch Gardens. She was born March 28, 1926 in Alleghany County, the youngest of eight children to the late Robert Marcus and Mary Allen (Reid) McCoy. Gracie was a longtime member of St. John’s United Methodist Church. Prior to retirement, she was employed by JC Penney in Staunton with 18 years of service. She was well known for growing African violets in the Staunton area. In addition to her husband of 68 years, family members include two sons, Lawrence D. Jackson and wife, Sandra, of Virginia Beach and Dennis W. Jackson of Columbus, OH; a sister, Mary Arline Long of Richmond; three grandchildren, Christine J. Miller and husband, Brian, of Prattville, AL, Lee B. Jackson of Virginia Beach, and Kimberly R. Jackson of Atlanta, GA; two great grandchildren, Abigail M. and Isabelle O. Miller; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, William Russell McCoy, James Leo McCoy, Robert Reid McCoy, and Basil Edgar McCoy and two sisters, Bettie Rudicle McCoy and Edna Eloise Bolt. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 10, 2017 in St. John’s United Methodist Church by the Rev. Taylor C. Mertins. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Sunday, April 9, 2017 in the Henry Funeral Home.
