Gloria Fairchild Reid

Gloria Elaine Fairchild Reid, 70, of 1419 Dogwood Road, Staunton, Virginia, permanently changed her address on May 7, 2016. Her declining health had been moving her closer to this move for some time. Gloria was born in Cross Keys, Virginia on February 8, 1946 to Langdon Connell and Fleta Reedy Fairchild. Gigi, as she was affectionately known, is survived by two sons: Donald Sidney Reid II (D.) and his wife Julie, and their two kids, Sela Mae and Adra Evangeline; and Langdon Fairchild Reid and his wife Alexis, and their two kids, Caroline Fairchild and Davis Barron. Also, her first cousin and “sister,” Patty St. Dennis. Special and close friends throughout her life include Don Reid, Brenda Reid, Lois Ocheltree, Diane Jessee, Judy Hatcher, and Dana Eastman. Gloria was a lifelong member and very active in her church, Olivet Presbyterian Church, directing Christmas plays, attending circle meetings, Vacation Bible School and teaching Sunday school. She received the Olivet Presbyterian Woman of the Year Award and displayed it proudly. In the community, she served on numerous boards including Weekday Religious Education, Historic Staunton Foundation, and Summit Square Retirement Community, as well as driving for Meals On Wheels. She enjoyed volunteering her time to others, scrapbooking, sewing, watching a good ol’ movie, and sitting in the sunshine with her cocker spaniels. She believed in the power of prayer, a good helping of common sense, you can’t have too many shoes, and eating dessert before your meal. Her engaging smile and sense of humor will be the source of many great stories and memories to come for her grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2016 in Olivet Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Lee Thomas. Memorials may be made to the Memorial Fund of Olivet Presbyterian Church, 1019 Richmond Road, Staunton, VA 24401. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
