    HAROLD EUGENE SMITH

    July 17, 1940 - October 31, 2011

    HAROLD E. SMITH WAYNESBORO, VA Harold Eugene "Smitty" Smith, 71, husband of Dorothy Batton Smith of 30 Jefferson Green, went to be with his Lord Monday, October 31, 2011, at his residence. He was born July 17, 1940, in Grundy, VA a son of the late Walker and Blanch (Powers) Smith. Harold grew up in Baltimore, MD and graduated from Catonsville High School. He worked for the U. S. Post Office before serving in the U. S. Air Force. He studied electrical engineering at the University of Houston and worked for Powell Electric and Winter Industries in Houston, Fiberbond in Minden, LA, Syntheses in Monument, Colorado, and Keith Manufacturing in Madras, OR. Harold loved his family, aviation, military history, baseball, and his special dogs, Rusty and Hanna. He was big in heart, very kind, generous, and gentle. In addition to his wife, family members include a daughter, Rachel B. Rodriguez; a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and William Stephens; sister-in-law, Jackie and Rogers Reeves; nieces, Terry Knight, Wanda and Sandy Santiago, Sheila and Steve Jackson, Alicia Reeves, Candi and Russ Smith; nephews, Scott and Nancy Reeves and Greg and Dalesa Reeves; an aunt, Lola Lambert; two uncles, Raymond Smith and Pierce Powers; grand nephews and nieces; great grand nephews and nieces; and cousins. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, November 5, 2011, in Crestlawn Memorial Cemetery in Marriotsville, MD, with William Stephens presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials may be made to either the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Children's Art Fund, P.O. Box 30435, Houston, TX 77230-1435 or to Mountain Mission School in Grundy, VA, c/o Blue Ridge Church of Christ, 1275 Goose Creek Road, Fishersville, VA 22939. A heartfelt thanks to Smitty's Jefferson Green Family, his Blue Ridge Church of Christ family, the Augusta Health ER, Augusta Rescue, Augusta Health 3rd floor staff, Hospice, and doctors, Vanessa Lee, Matthew Hoy, Linyee Chang, and Carrie Snodgrass.
