HARRY L. DULL STAUNTON, VA Harry Lee Dull, 71, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at Augusta Health, Fishersville. He was born September 9, 1943, in Staunton, a son of the late Mary Catherine Diehl Dull Shiplett and Edward Wilson Dull, Sr. He was an Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War. He received the Vietnam Accommodation's, Purple Heart, and Good Conduct medals. Mr. Dull was owner of Dull's Catering. Harry was a true labor leader serving on the Executive Board of the Virginia State AFL-CIO for more than 40 years. He was president of the Shenandoah Valley Central Labor Council which became Western Virginia Federation of Labor as Vice-President. He was vice president of the Augusta County Fire and Rescue Company 11 (Preston Yancey) Volunteer Services. He also cooked for the monthly dinners. Harry was active with the Staunton Braves for many years, cooking hamburgers (Harry's Burger Barn) and serving ice cream. He loved meeting the boys and feeding them. He was also a life member of VFW Post 2216 and the Fishersville Ruritan Club. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Joyce H. Dull, married July 24, 1971; loving father and best friend to sons, Christopher Alan Dull and Kevin Edward Dull and wife, Megan; known affectionately as "DawDaw" to his precious grandchildren, Cameron McGwire Dull, Lexi Brooke Dull, and Blake Hudson Dull; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty D. and Frank Campbell and Nancy D. and Bill Bradford; a brother and sister-in-law, Daniel Wayne and Denise Dull; an aunt, Irene Diehl; nieces and nephews; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Wilson Dull, Jr.; his mother-in-law, Frances Hemp Hall; and best friend, Rick Howard. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 13, 2014, in St. James Lutheran Church, Fishersville by Pastors James Pence and William Ballance. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. Military rites will be conducted by the Augusta Staunton VFW Post 2216. Active pallbearers will be Mike Mays, Chuck Simpson, Cliff Carlton, Steve Bryant, Tim Gibson, David Updike, Rich May, and Jeremy Nance. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Virginia State AFL-CIO Executive Board, Western Virginia Federation of Labor, Augusta County Fire and Rescue Company 11 - active and volunteer personnel, Fishersville Ruritan Club, and Linnea Spradlin, Roger and Linda Shuler, Gary Kendall, and Joe and Linda Gensinger. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, September 12, 2014, in the Henry Funeral Home. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Augusta Health CPU, PCU nurses, Susan - skilled care, and doctors that helped him through his final journey. His final words "Buy American", "Stay true to your union". Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Central and Western Virginia Chapter, 1160 Pepsi Place, Suite 306, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
