HELEN J. CAMPBELL   RAPHINE, VA… Helen Jennings Campbell, widow of Cecil Bryant Campbell and formerly of Mint Spring, passed away May 10, 2017 at Blue Ridge Christian Home in Raphine, where she had resided since October of 2015. She was born on May 26, 1920 and was the youngest of 12 children born to Wilson Palmer Jennings and Laura Ann (Kesterson) Jennings. Possessing a strong love of music, Helen studied voice and piano. She gave private piano lessons in her home as well as at the old Stuarts Draft High School. Helen and Cecil were united in marriage on June 16, 1945. After her marriage, she devoted her life to her family and being a homemaker. She supported and assisted her husband in his business endeavors as well as crafting a loving home life for her family. She and Cecil were blessed with 68 happy years together until his passing on October 28, 2013. Helen was an active member of Mint Spring United Methodist Church. She especially enjoyed the Thursday morning Sewing Bee, where she sewed, quilted and socialized with her friends. An avid bookworm, she could often be found reading the books of her favorite author, Grace Livingston Hill. A talented baker, her homemade rolls and lemon meringue pie were unsurpassed. She is survived by two children, a daughter, Virginia Ann Jones, and her husband Gary, and a son, William Cecil Campbell, all of Mint Spring. In addition, she is survived by her granddaughters, Christina A. Jones and Angela Clontz, and her husband, Aaron. She was blessed with a great-grandson, William Douglas Clontz, in May of 2016. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents and her husband, Helen was preceded in death by seven brothers; Clinton, Earl, Elmer, Baldwin, Harry, Ralph, and Woodrow Jennings. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Corinne Jennings, Gertrude Harmon, Madeline Harper and Ruth Cleveland. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017 in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Terry Clark. Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Blue Ridge Christian Home for all of the love and wonderful care given to Helen while she resided there. The family is also grateful to Dr. John Marsh for the care and compassion given to both Cecil and Helen over the years. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Henry Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, those desiring, may make memorial contributions to Mint Spring United Methodist Church, Riverheads Fire Department, or a charity of one’s choice.
