HELEN W. HARPER FISHERSVILLE, VA Helen "Nana" Dorothy (Wood) Harper, 90, widow of Clarence David Harper, formerly of 202 Skyline Avenue, died Monday, March 25, 2013, at her residence, 136 Tinkling Spring Road. She was born January 16, 1923, in Craigsville, a daughter of the late Edward and Antha (Strickler) Wood. Prior to retirement, Mrs. Harper was a supervisor and Group Leader at General Electric. She was a member of TOPS for 20 years. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Decker; son-in-law, David Deaver; a brother, Elmer Wood; and four sisters, Rachael Brown, Susie Clear, Jean Graves, and Carolyn Fravel. Family members include two daughters and two sons-in-law, Judy and Larry Payne of Staunton, Carolyn Deaver of Staunton, and Frank Decker of Stuarts Draft; a sister, Audrey Graham; twelve grandchildren, David Simmons, Michael Simmons, Chris Simmons, Jeff Deaver, Donna Carter, Cindy Deaver, Karen Robertson, Denise Wells, Millie Cook, Stephanie Ramsey, R. B. Decker, and Virgil Decker; twenty-two great grandchildren, Michael Simmons, Dwayne Simmons, Jeremy Simmons, Amanda Wilkins, Jonathan Wells, Zach Wells, Matthew Cook, Kara Cook, Richard Ramsey, Chaz Ramsey, Emily Rexrode, Bethany Decker, Kari Hildebrand, Eric Deaver, Brandon Carter, Jenni Brown, Cassie Deaver, Jared Deaver, Curtis Lowe, Kayla Robertson, Allison Robertson, and Travis Robertson; and thirteen great, great grandchildren, Latisha Botkin, Makayla Simmons, Daisy Simmons, Dayla Viel, Addison Wilkins, Ericka and Jeffrey Hildebrand, Tyler Randall, Caleb Deaver, Riley Rexrode, Cooper Ramsey, Curtis Simmons, and Haley Simmons. A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday (March 28, 2013) in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by her grandson, Pastor Brandon Carter. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be great grandsons. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening in Henry Funeral Home and other times at 2207 Third Street, Staunton, 1901 Orange Street, Staunton, or 136 Tinkling Spring Road, Fishersville. Memorials may be made to New Life Foursquare Gospel Church, 89 William Cousins Road, Staunton, VA 24401 or to Hospice of the Shenandoah, P. O. Box 215, Fishersville, VA 22939. The family expresses their heartfelt appreciation to June Cline, Cindy Blackwell, Lisa Gordon and Dr. Rob Marsh for the loving care given to Nana during her long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease.
