FISHERSVILLE, VA Helen Dorothy (Kesterson) Potter,92, widow of William Martin Potter, died on Thursday, February 26, 2015, in Augusta Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born on June 17, 1922 in Greenville, a daughter of the late Roy R. and Lona Mae (Gilmer) Kesterson. Ms. Potter attended Greenville Elementary School and Stuarts Draft High School. She attended every class reunion she could. She was a graduate of Dunsmore Business College. She retired from ASR, then continued to work in home health care, first in Tappahannock, then Augusta and Rockingham counties. In her earlier years, Mrs. Potter volunteered at Riverheads Elementary School. Helen loved working outdoors in her yard and gardens. She always enjoyed having a pickup truck to assist her in her many tasks. Most importantly, she loved her family, especially the children. She hosted every Christmas Eve, many birthday parties and other celebrations. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Erle W. and May Potter of Midlothian, and Benny R. and Gloria Potter of Greenville; a daughter, Betty Martin Allen of Boones Mill; four grandchildren, Wesley "Ley" E. Allen, Jr. and his wife, Betty, Boones Mill, Heath R. Potter of Greenville, and Wendy L. Snell and her husband, Mike, of Stuarts Draft, and Holly D. Nichols, and husband, Jason, of Vinton; five great grandchildren, Celia M. Allen of Boones Mill, and Wesley E. Allen, III of Vinton; Emily and Maggie Nichols, of Vinton, and Benjamin G. Snell of Stuarts Draft; and three great-great grandchildren, Alisa M. Allen, Braden C. Allen, and Charlotte P.J. Ellis, all of Vinton. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Wendellyn "Lyn" E. Allen, and a sister, Jessie K. Earhart. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Bethel Presbyterian Church by Rev. David Shearer. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Ley Allen, Heath Potter, Wendy Snell, Holly Nichols, Celia Allen, and Wesley Allen. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The family expresses their deepest appreciation to Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah.
