HENCIL A. BURNS STAUNTON, VA Hencil Albert Burns, 77, widower of Bertie Mae "Perk" (Drumheller) Burns, of 410 Yount Avenue, died Sunday, August 24, 2014, at Augusta Health. He was born March 21, 1937, in Augusta County, a son of the late William Harry and Madeline Gladys (Cook) Burns. Prior to retirement, Mr. Burns was employed by Smith's Transfer and ABF Freight. Family members include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph L. and Vickie Leitch of Staunton and Ray D. and Anita Leitch of Augusta County; a daughter and son-in-law, Angela and David Bratton of Millboro; four brothers, Harry Nelson Burns of Harrisonburg, James Edward Burns of Staunton, Marvin Francis Burns of Verona, and Homer Eugene Burns of Raphine; six grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Irene B. Shiflett. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2014 in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens by the Rev. Luke Smith. Military rites will be provided by the Augusta-Staunton VFW Post #2216. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Augusta Regional SPCA, P.O. Box 2014, Staunton, VA 24402. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
