Herminia Lopes Santos, 93, died Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at her residence at The Legacy. She was born June 11, 1925 in Povoa de Santo Amaro, Portugal, a daughter of Alfonso and Fernanda Lopes. Herminia came to America when she was 16 and although she returned regularly to Portugal she loved the country that gave her family so much opportunity. She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Dos Santos and a brother, Luis Lopes. Family members include two sons, Victor M. Santos (Karen) of Staunton and Carlos M. Santos (Bette Jean) of Charlottesville; two sisters, Alzita Faucher of Wilmington, Delaware and Fatima Mattos in Portugal; five grandchildren, Brandon (Christa), Michael (Meredith), Carter (Allison), Katie, and Sarah (Calvin); and six great grandchildren, Jaiden, Berkley, Nancy, Lucy, Caroline and Josephine. Herminia was loved by special friends Carol Jo Mills, Maria Pehan, and the caregivers at The Legacy. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. The burial will be private preceding the ceremony. Memorials may be made to the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah or Augusta Health Foundation. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
