HOWARD M. CAREY, JR. STAUNTON, VA Howard Maitland "Mait" Carey, Jr., 86, husband of Gennivee (Dennison) Carey, died Friday, April 13, 2012, at Augusta Health, Fishersville. He was born February 12, 1926, in Philadelphia, PA, a son of the late Howard Maitland, Sr., and Vivian (Baker) Carey. Mait graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1944. Following high school graduation, Mait reported for active duty in the U.S. Navy, Norfolk, VA, and served in the Navy on the Carrier "Manila Bay" from 1944 until 1946. Upon returning home he enrolled in the University of Virginia but then was called back into the service during the Korean Conflict from 1950 until 1952 on the USS Rio Grand and returned back to U.V. A. to graduate in 1954. In February 1955 Mait went to work at American Safety Razor Company, retiring as supervisor of packing engineering on September 30, 1988, after 33 ½ years of service. He was an active member of Second Presbyterian Church for 62 years. In addition to his wife, whom he married on August 26, 1950, at Second Presbyterian Church, family members include, a son and daughter-in-law, William Bradford "Brad" and Jacki Carey; a brother and sister-in-law, Henry B. and Nancy Carey; a niece, Susan Lendermon and her husband, Chuck, and their two sons; a niece, Scottie Dennison of Alexandria; a nephew, John Dennison and his family of Canada; and cousins who live in North Carolina and Florida. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2012, in the Second Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Dr. Daniel S. Williams. The family will receive friends following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall. Burial will be private. There will be no public viewing or visitation at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Second Presbyterian Church, Maintenance Fund, P.O. Box 175, Staunton, VA 24402. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
