    HYLAN ROSS SHIFLETT

    December 13, 1926 - December 13, 2012

    HYLAN R. SHIFLETT STAUNTON, VA Hylan Ross Shiflett, 86, husband of Lilly Virginia Price Shiflett, of 2305 Park Hill Road, died Thursday, December 13, 2012, at Envoy of Staunton. He was born December 13, 1926, in Augusta County, a son of the late William B. and Mollie Lee (Shifflett) Shiflett. Mr. Shiflett was a veteran of the Army having served in the 60th Infantry as a Cpl. Prior to retirement, he was employed by the City of Staunton. He was also a school crossing guard and security guard. He was a member of New Life Foursquare Gospel Church, where he served as head usher, Sunday School Secretary, and council member. In addition to his wife, family members include two sons, Ronald Lee Shiflett of Staunton and Raymond Thomas Shiflett of Stuarts Draft; three daughters, Agnes S. Campbell of Staunton, Joan W. Shiflett of Stuarts Draft, and Ruth S. Puffenbarger of Mint Spring; a brother, George W. Shiflett of Augusta County; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and six great, great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Emmett and Joe; and four sisters, Eliza Hendricks, Louise Garrison, Lillian B. Hise, and Helen M. Louk. Also predeceased by a son-in-law, Wendell Zimbro; and former son-in-law, George Wade. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, December 17, 2012, at New Life Foursquare Gospel Church, 97 William Cousins Road, Staunton, by the Revs. Brandon Carter and Andrew Salcedo. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. Graveside rites will be conducted by the Staunton VFW Post 2216. Active pallbearers will be Ralph Puffenbarger, John Eckard, French Simmons, Billy Simmons, Bobby Campbell, Tracy Carter, Paul Bird, and Roy Guffey. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, December 16, 2012, in the Henry Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to New Life Foursquare Gospel Church, 97 William Cousins Road, Staunton, VA 24401.
