Helen S. Cash

Helen Josephine Siron Cash, widow of John L. Cash of 25 Sunset Boulevard, Staunton, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at The Retreat at Fishersville.

She was born July 8, 1927 at Doe Hill, Highland County to the late David Clinton Siron and Leda Jane (Siron) Siron. She graduated from McDowell High School in 1945. She then went to work for Reid’s Grocery Store (later known as the Shop & Save) where she worked for 43 years.
Helen loved bowling, listening to country and bluegrass music, bird watching and bus trips.

She was an active member of Linden Heights Baptist Church and the Ruth Darcas Sunday School Class.
On August 20, 1949 she married John Lewis Cash who preceded her in death on March 26, 1988. Other than her parents, she was also preceded in death by three sisters, Opal and Iva Siron of Doe Hill and May Siron Beverage Welcher of Staunton; and a brother, David Leon “Lenny” Siron of Doe Hill; two nieces, Donna Kay and Christine Beverage; a nephew, Fred A. Beverage, Jr.; a sister-in-law, Mamie Cash Hodge; and eight brothers-in-law, Morrison, Sam, Fauntleroy, Bruce, Robert, Herbert Cash, Fred A. Beverage, Sr., and William Welcher; a very special, loving friend, J. Frank Clemmer for 10 years; and her very best friend Margaret (Tootie) Childress for 73 years.

Helen was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Survivors include one great-nephew, David M. Beverage (Erin); one great niece, Amanda Fridley (Brian); one great-great-niece, Carly Beverage; one great-great-nephew, Colton Bird; a special cousin, Anna Lee Sample; two brothers-in-law, Gene Cash (Dolly) and Warren Cash (Sandy); a special niece, Lisa Hodge; a niece, Debbie Beverage; a sister-in-law, Georgie Cash; and special friends, Shelton and Joan Bowers.
A funeral service will be conducted at Linden Heights Baptist Church in Staunton on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at 10:00 AM with the Reverends Thomas A. Dill and Dustin Gilmer officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro.

Serving as pallbearers will be Eddie Meyerhoeffer, Vernon Wooddell, David Beverage, Gary Pultz, Sheldon Bowers, Scott Childress, Wesley Cash, and Gene Cash. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Lisa Hodge, Anna Lee Samples, and the Ruth Darcas Sunday School Class.
