IDA S. SMITH VERONA, VA Ida Virginia (Smith) Smith, 75, widow of Virgil "Jack" Smith, of 55 Church Street, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Augusta Health, Fishersville. She was born on August 21, 1937, in Clover Creek, to the late Dave John and Mary Rebecca (Malcolm) Smith. She retired after 25 years of service in the cafeteria at Verona Elementary School. She was a member and Sunday school teacher at Verona United Methodist Church and treasurer for the Golden Deeds Class. She loved to bake cakes and pies and anything sweet. She crocheted, did other arts and crafts, and loved doing for others. Family members include a son, Mark Duane Smith of Verona; six brothers, Jacob Smith, David Smith, Albert Smith, Edward Smith, Robert Smith, and Stover Smith; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Daisy and Harry Huff and Dorothy and Gary Drake; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John Smith and James Smith and two sisters, Rose Pitsenbarger and Mary Cook. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2013, at Verona United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert Weeks and the Rev. Edward Pruitt. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Henry Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Active pallbearers will be Kenny Brown, Kenny Cason, Ronnie Cox, Tony Marcum, Curtis Carter, and Carl Vandevander. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Golden Deeds Class, friends at the Verona United Methodist Church, cafeteria workers at Verona Elementary School, Lillie Cash, Mary Jane Ayres, Lena Martin, Doris Thompson, Pamela Thompson, Barbara Collie, and Herthel Chestnut. Memorials may be made to the Golden Deeds Class at Verona United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 47, Verona, VA 24482.
