STAUNTON, VA…              Irene Stull Dawson of Staunton, age 92, died December 18, 2015.  Irene was born November 9, 1923 in her childhood home at 118 West Main Street, Covington, Virginia.  She was the second child of Emmet M. Stull, former Mayor, Justice of the Peace and businessman in Covington and Minnie Evans Stull.  Irene was preceded in death by her husband, John Eddie Dawson, Sr. and, sister, Dr. Evelyn L. Stull, also originally of Covington, and grandson, Nathan Allison of Louisa, VA.              Irene graduated from Covington High School in 1940 and married her high school sweetheart, John Eddie, October 10, 1942, who was enlisted in the Army.  The couple spent their honeymoon night at the Stonewall Jackson Hotel in Staunton in route to Fort Monroe, where her husband was to report the next day.  Irene worked at WESTVACO in Covington during WWII while John Eddie served in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific.              Irene is survived by her four children Susan Evans Dawson Staub of Harrisburg, PA; Stuart T. Dawson of Staunton, John E. Dawson, Jr. of Herndon, VA; and Amy Dawson Finley of Magnolia, DE; her grandchildren, Jack Dawson, Samuel Stull Dawson, Maggie Dawson, and Kristen Finley.  She had one great-grandchild, Cameron Allison, of Waynesboro, VA.  She is also survived by her children-in-law, Wanda Dawson, Susan Dawson and Timothy Finley.              Irene was an active member of Memorial Baptist Church, Staunton since 1966, where she served on the Finance and History Committees.  She taught the pre-school children’s class at the church for over 20 years.  Irene began working again in her 40’s at the RC Bottling Co. Staunton and John D. Eiland Co, Verona as bookkeeper for both companies.  After retiring in 1992, Irene enjoyed travel, church friendships, community activities, and visiting her children and grandchildren.   She was active until just before her death reading a book per week and wrote a book report on every book she read; kept a daily journal, practiced piano one hour per day, kept her house spotless, and was a prolific correspondent with both email and postal mail.              A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 11 A.M. at Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Temple Myers.  Entombment will be at 3 P.M. at Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor, VA.              Family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 from 6 – 8 P.M. at Henry Funeral Home.              Donations may be made to Romanian Christian Enterprises (RCenterprises.org), 21058 Unison Road, Middleburg, VA 20117-2508.
