J. Lloyd Derrer

He was born October 18, 1932, in Harrisonburg, a son of the late Franklin P. and Margie (Liskey) Derrer. Mr. Derrer was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Prior to retirement he was employed by the Virginia Department of Transportation as a bridge engineer where he received the Commissioner’s Award for Excellence.  He was a farmer all his life, and loved helping people.  He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife of 64 years, family members include two daughters and a son-in-law, Kathy E. Reagan and Robin and Steve Harris; a brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Ivy Derrer; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Bill Craun and Shirley and Allen Gould; three grandchildren, James A. Butler and wife, Alana, Christopher B. Butler, and Chaley E. Regan; six great grandchildren, Brittany M., Hunter A., Trent R., Layla N., and Logan J. Butler, and Robert M. Reagan; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Derrer and Frances Derrer; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Owen Derrer, Holbert Derrer, and Harold Derrer. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2017 in Christ United Methodist Church by the Rev. Sarah Locke.  Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Trent Showalter, Tommy Hanger, Jerry Jones, Milton Grady, Ronald Welcher, Todd Wilmore, Ronnie Brown, and Michael Derrer. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2017 in the Henry Funeral Home.
