JAMES W. ALPHIN VERONA, VA James Wilson Alphin, 70, husband of Margaret (Branch) Alphin of 5 Sunderlin Place, died Thursday, January 1, 2015, at Augusta Health. He was born December 11, 1944, in Staunton, a son of the late Frank Lewis, Sr., and Hilda Loretta (Monroe) Alphin. Mr. Alphin was a hardworking self-employed brick layer. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed shooting pool, loved Redskins football, and NASCAR racing. In addition to his wife, family members include two sons and daughters-in law, Larry Edward and Mary Kathleen Dunning of Indiana and Gary Lee and Carolyn Dunning of Singers Glen; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Abby Lawson of Grottoes, Beverley Ann and Michael McCrave of Kansas, and LynnDee and Lee Morris of Staunton; four sisters, Evelyn L. Abshire, Betty A. Piner, Polly J. Moats, and Sandy A. Packer; 19 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; four great, great grandchildren; and a number of close friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frankie L. Alphin, Jr. and Jerry C. Alphin. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 5, 2015, in Ridgeview Baptist Church by Pastor Don McClure. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2015, in the Henry Funeral Home.
