JAMES W. COINER   CRIMORA, VA… James William, "Jim," Coiner, 84, of Crimora, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2016 at Envoy Nursing Home in Staunton. He was born in Augusta County, Va., on September 15, 1931, and was a son of the late Faye Freed and Lilian Marie (Clinedinst) Coiner. He was a graduate of Wilson Memorial High School. On April 12, 1951, he was inducted into the United States Air Force at Sampson AFB, Geneva NY followed by Aircraft Mechanic School at Sheppard AFB, Wichita Falls, TX. On December 22, 1951 he reported to overseas duty assignment with the 437th Maintenance Squadron; 315th Troop Carrier Wing, Brady AFB, Japan. While stationed in Japan, he served as Aircraft Mechanic and later as Flight Engineer. During the Korean War, he participated in regular and frequent aerial flights, performing duties essential to accomplishing mission objectives of the aircraft to which he was assigned. On February 4, 1954, Jim was awarded the Air Crew Badge. Upon completion of duty in Japan, He fulfilled his remaining service commitment at Maxwell AFB, Alabama until February 11, 1955, whereby he was awarded an Honorable discharge. During his service, Jim received the Korean Service Medal; UN Service Medal; National Defense Service and Good Conduct Medals. He is predeceased by two wives, Beulah (Terry) Collins Coiner and Peggy (Mynes) Coiner and one brother, Charles E. “Buddy” Coiner. Surviving are two daughters, Martha (Coiner) Camden and husband Michael of Knoxville TN; and Teri (Coiner) Jacobsen and husband Lyle of Dayton, VA; Five grandchildren: Benjamin, Sarah, Matthew, Nathanael and Abigail Jacobsen. Also surviving are two brothers; Marshall Coiner (wife Ardell), and Harold Coiner (wife Janet) all of Waynesboro; two nephews and two nieces. At his request, the body was cremated. All services are private and handled by Henry Funeral Home in Staunton.
