James Rondal Hemp, Sr.

James Rondal “Ronnie” Hemp, Sr., 76, widower of Arline Dorothy (Ahnemann) Hemp, of Greenville, died Friday, October 12, 2018.             He was born December 16, 1941, in Staunton, a son of the late Merlin L. and Gaynelle (Holtz) Hemp.             Prior to retirement, Mr. Hemp was employed by Augusta Correctional Center as assistant farm manager.             He liked auctions, hunting, and was an avid John Deere man.             In addition to his wife, who passed away on September 23, 2018, he was also preceded in death by a grandson, Cody Miller.             Family members include his children, Audra Lynne McCray and Tim, James “Jimmy” Rondal Hemp, Jr. and India, April Lynne Welsh, David Matthew Hemp and Carolyn, and Betty “Betsy” Gaynelle Hemp; a brother, J. Thomas “Tom” Hemp and Bruce; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren, Brayden Fix, Gavin Kincaid, Kylan Lucas, Jeremiah Hemp, Aniya Hemp, Jaxson Hemp, Carson Hemp, Karissa Hemp, Aiden Fix, Lauren Fix, Bryson Simpson and Breckyn Estes. He had many special friends, including his co-workers from Augusta Correctional Center.             A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 20, 2018, in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Lloyd Via. Burial will follow in St. John’s Reformed Church Cemetery.             Active pallbearers will be his grandsons, James Fix, Nathan Fix, Evan Fix, Matt McCray, Trey Hemp, Josh Hemp, Jordi Hemp, Clay Falls, Levi Hemp, Austin Cross, and Lance Cross.             Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters, Jessica McCray, Jackie Spradlin, Cherokee Lucas, Randi Leigh Nuckoles, and Hailey Hemp.             The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, October 19, 2018, in the funeral home.             The family will be wearing camouflage in his memory.
