JAMES H. SAMS, SR. STAUNTON, VA James Howard Sams, Sr., 81, husband of Brownie (Loan) Sams, of 96 Eagle Rock Lane, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at his residence. He was born February 4, 1931, in Alderson, West Virginia, a son of the late Harry and Alma (Wiekle) Sams. Prior to retirement, Mr. Sams was a self-employed farmer. In addition to his loving wife of 63 years, family members include a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Ken Shannon of Richmond; three sons, James Sams, Jr., Gregory Sams, both of Staunton, and Larry Sams, of Harrisonburg; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and his beloved dog, "Tiny". He was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Elaine Kelley. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2012, in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Clyde Gum. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Mike Sams, Jason Sams, Richard DePriest, Nathan Young, Roger Young, and Kenny Shannon, Jr. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2012, in the funeral home.
