JAMES L. SUMNER, JR. STAUNTON, VA James Leeford Sumner, Jr., 87, widower of Mary Ella (Clark) Sumner, of Staunton, passed Wednesday, March 18, 2015. He was born on August 14, 1927 in Staunton, a son of the late James Ledford, Sr. and Beulah (Zimbro) Sumner. Mr. Sumner retired as a meat cutter at Shop n Save and later worked at Planters Bank. He was a member of Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Judy Fisher. Family members include three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Norma Sumner of Staunton, Gary and Cheryl Sumner of Lynchburg, and Harold and Leyla Sumner of Mt. Sidney; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Roger Arbogast and Patty and Roger Ergenbright, all of Churchville; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Arabella "Tootie" and Harold Cline of Staunton and Ann Townsend of Georgia; 13 grandchildren; multiple great grandchildren; and his beloved pet, Coco. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015, in Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert Sharp. Burial will be private in Augusta Memorial Park by the Rev. Merle Dodson. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2015, in the Henry Funeral Home.
