JAMES E. WEAVER RAPHINE, VA. James Edward "Jim" Weaver, 82, of 55 Beulah Drive, Villa #6, Raphine, VA, (formerly of Staunton, VA) died Monday, November 7, 2011 at Augusta Health in Fishersville. He was born December 31, 1928 in Waynesboro, a son of the late Walker K. and Tracy Mae (Simmons) Weaver. He was member of Zion Lutheran Church and served 4 years in the U. S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Palau. Jim was owner/operator of Valley Paving, Inc., Staunton, and was recognized as one of the best paving contractors in the state. Competing with his tractor The Virginian' from 1972 thru 2010 brought him much enjoyment, winning many awards and making many friends. In January 1984, he was invited to compete in the Netherlands with an all expense paid trip. He was a member of N.T.P.A., a charter member of N.A.T.P.A. Antique Club and honorary member of three local clubs. On June 7, 1957 he married Mamie Ruth Halterman who survives. In addition to his wife of 54 years, surviving family members include sisters, Ethel Ward and husband Clyde and Anna Mast and husband, Fred; brothers, Vance Weaver and wife, Karon, Robert Weaver, and Ray Weaver; also a half sister, Ellen Weaver; half-brothers, Jerry Weaver and wife Ruthann and Kenneth Weaver and wife, Fern; a sister-in-law, Maxine Weaver; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers Wilson Floyd Weaver and W. K. Weaver, Jr., also sisters-in-law, Grace Martin Weaver and Kay Weaver. Jim was loved by his wife, Ruth, his dog, Misty, his family members and received much respect from his many friends. He will be greatly missed. His philosophy in life was "any job worth doing is worth doing well". He practiced this 100 percent. There will be no public viewing. Family and friends will meet at Henry Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. A funeral will be held in the Chapel of the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 10, 2011. Dave Yancey, a longtime friend and former pastor of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Staunton will be officiating. Active pallbearers will be Eddie Bartley, Tommy Westhafer, Mark Rodgers, Jeff Englehart, Jody Ross, and Joe Dugas. Dottie Westhafer will administer the music which was previously chosen by Jim. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions can be made to Staunton/Augusta S.P.C.A., P. O. Box 2014, Staunton, Virginia 24401.
