STAUNTON, VA Mrs. David R. Brody passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2015 in Staunton surrounded by her family. She was born March 2, 1929 in Chestnut Hill, PA daughter of the late Albert and Mina Behr Zifferblatt of Philadelphia, PA. Mrs. Brody attended Green Mountain College in Poultney, VT and later engaged in a brief career as a Radio and TV Commentator for NBC in Trenton, NYC, and Philadelphia. While in Philadelphia, Mrs. Brody met her future husband Dr. David Brody, a general surgeon, of Youngstown, OH. They were married in Philadelphia November 26, 1950 then resided in Youngstown, OH where she was a homemaker. Along with raising two children, she and her husband enjoyed gardening, tennis, golf, and traveling. She was a celebrated women's golf champion several times at Squaw Creek Country Club in Youngstown, OH. Mrs. Brody volunteered over twenty years with the National Federation of United Jewish Appeal raising funds for the State of Israel for education and child welfare. Retiring with Dr. Brody to Palm Desert, CA in 1986, Mrs. Brody established a public Art program for the Palm Desert City Parks. As chairwoman and conceptual leader for the Public Arts Committee, she was responsible for more than fifteen public sculptures to be displayed outside throughout the city. In 2004, Dr. and Mrs. Brody returned east to Staunton, VA to see more of their children and grandchildren. More recently, she welcomed her first great-granddaughter. Mrs. Brody is preceded in death by her husband Dr. David R. Brody, who was deceased in 2007. Mrs. Brody is survived by her son Tom Brody, formerly of Hightown, VA, now Black Mountain, NC; daughter Lee Brody Beasley and husband Tim of Monterey, VA; granddaughters Rachael Brody Goldstein and husband Noah of Boulder, CO; Elana Brody and Sara Brody of Boulder, CO; grandson Will Beasley of Monterey, VA; and great-granddaughter Hazel T. Goldstein of Boulder, CO. A memorial will take place during the summer. In lieu of flowers or cards, friends and family may make donations to the Temple House of Israel, P.O. Box 1412, Staunton, VA 24402.
