JANICE S. SMITH STAUNTON, VA Janice Ann (Spitler) Smith, 81, widow of Joseph Smith, of Staunton, died Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at Royal Care. She was born July 18, 1932, in Staunton, a daughter of the late John E. and Edna (Reese) Spitler. She was a member of Arbor Hill Church of the Brethren. Family members include a daughter, Robin Tapley of Staunton; three grandchildren, Jay, Joseph, and Jamie Hendricks, all of Staunton; three step-grandchildren, Brianna, Walker, and Brandon Tapley, all of Churchville; and numerous nieces. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Kay (Smith) Hendricks and two brothers. A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, in Augusta Memorial Park by the Rev. Dan Darrikhuma. The family will receive friends following the service in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church hall, 1000 North Coalter Street, Staunton, VA 24401. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Shenandoah, P.O. Box 215, Fishersville, VA 22939. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
