Jean Elizabeth Carter

JEAN E. CARTER STAUNTON, VA Jean Elizabeth (Tomlin) Carter, 89, widow of Richard Connell Carter, of 1410 N. Coalter Street, Staunton died Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at her residence. She was born December 24, 1922, in Charlottesville, a daughter of the late Marcus Eugene and Nora Muriel Tomlin. Prior to retirement, Mrs. Carter was employed as a LPN at Western State Hospital with 24 years of service, retiring in 1988. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by four brothers; and a sister. Family members include two sons and daughter-in-law, Barry Neal Carter of Dallas, Texas and Richard Connell, Jr. and Susan Carter of Staunton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon Lee and John Mahitka of Quicksburg and Kim Carter and Ronnie Caracofe of Middlebrook; ten grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and great, great grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2012 in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens by the Rev. Randy Simmons. Family and friends will gather at Jean's residence following the service. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, December 17, 2012, in the Henry Funeral Home.
