JEAN S. DUNSMORE MOUNT SIDNEY, VA... Jean Ellen (Stogdale) Dunsmore, 72, wife of Gerald R. "Jake" Dunsmore, of 506 Seawright Springs Road, Mount Sidney, died unexpectedly after a brief illness Saturday, October 5, 2013, in the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville. She was born July 19, 1941, in Staunton, a daughter of the late Jack and Alberta (Shiplett) Stogdale. She was a graduate of Lee High School and Dunsmore Business College. She retired from Valley Oil Corporaton as office manager and most recently, enjoyed part-time employment at James Madison University. She was also a charter member of the Verona Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was an active member of Bethany United Methodist Church. Her concern for the needs of others led her to help found the Bethany UMC Church Food Pantry, which she was instrumental in organizing. She was much loved as a mother and grandmother, not only by her family but also by numerous others, who will continue to hold her dear in their hearts. In addition to her husband, family members include a daughter and son-in-law, Gayle (Dunsmore) and Rory Gorman; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Jackie Dunsmore; five grandchildren, Bradley and wife Jordan, Katie, and Carrie Dunsmore, and Aisling and Aidan Gorman; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Don and Carole Landes. She was preceded in death by a brother, Stewart Stogdale. Her life will be celebrated at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at a memorial service at Bethany United Methodist Church. Her family is receiving visitors at home anytime and at the church following the service. Burial will be private at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. Memorials may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church Food Pantry, 3700 Lee Highway, Weyers Cave, VA 24486. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
