Jean Shirley Goshorn

JEAN M. GOSHORN HARRISONBURG, VA… Jean Shirley (Milford) Goshorn, 88, died peacefully at Sunnyside Presbyterian Home on April 25, 2018. Jean Milford Goshorn was born the daughter of the late Henry and Helen Milford on May 26, 1929, in Lonaconing, Maryland. She graduated from Lonaconing High School as class Valedictorian. Jean then attended Frostburg State Teachers College where she majored in Zoology. In 1950 she married the Rev. Robert Dick (Bob) Goshorn, then spent her life raising their daughters and serving as church musician for the congregations he served. These congregations included The Berryville Presbyterian Church, The Second Presbyterian Church of Newport News, VA, and Hebron Presbyterian Church in Staunton, VA. Jean and Bob retired to Spottswood in 1990 where Jean enjoyed gardening and supporting her daughters as they raised her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jean also continued working for the church, serving as both church organist and session member for the Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church. After Jean and Bob entered Sunnyside Adult Community in Harrisonburg, she served as chapel organist until 2015.           In addition to her husband, she is survived her daughters and two sons-in-law, Betty and David Dax,  Pamela Bailey, and Sylvia and Jim Crawford; her sisters, Betty Dawson and Nancy Davis;. She is also survived by grandchildren, Bridget Baylor, Noah Bailey, Cary Robinson, and Robert Crawford, as well as five great grandchildren, Beau Baylor, Jacob Baylor, Cole Bailey, Daniel Robinson, and Katelyn Robinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.  A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2018, in Hebron Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Noah Bailey, Bobby Crawford, Brad Baylor, Chris Robinson, David Dax, and Jim Crawford. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2018, at Sunnyside Presbyterian Home officiated by Anne Pettit. Memorials may be made to Sunnyside Presbyterian Home, Fellowship Fund, 3935 Sunnyside Drive, Harrisonburg, VA 22801. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
