    JEAN DUNSMORE SHEETS-BROCE

    May 9, 1928 - May 30, 2014

    JEAN D. SHEETS-BROCE VERONA, VA Jean (Dunsmore) Sheets Broce, 86, wife of Grayson Hale Broce, Sr., of Middle River Drive Verona, died Friday, May 30, 2014, in King's Daughters' Nursing and Rehab Center, Staunton. She was born May 9, 1928, in Augusta County, the daughter of the late Lacy Taylor and Mary Ella (King) Dunsmore. She graduated from Mt. Sidney High School in 1945. She lived most of her life in the Verona area. She had previously been employed by Celanese in the payroll department; she operated a beauty shop from her home; and had been a teacher of cosmetology at Valley Vo-Tech for 16 years. She also made ceramics and doll making. Mrs. Broce was a member of the Verona United Methodist Church, where she had been a former Sunday School teacher and a member of the choir. She was also a member of the Golden Arches Water Aerobics through Augusta Medical Center. Family members, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Vickie S. Racca of Bridgewater; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve V. and Janet Sheets of Orlando, Florida; three grandchildren, Natasha D. Mowbray and husband Lee, Michael J. Racca and wife, Sanda, and Lori M. Racca; a brother, Donald Dunsmore of Rockledge, Florida; three great grandchildren, Cole, Justin, and Chloe Mowbray; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James Wayne Sheets; and two brothers, Wade Dunsmore and Charles Dunsmore. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2014, in the Verona United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert J. Weeks. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Stacey Dunsmore, Tim Karnes, Lee Mowbray, Michael Racca, and Donald Booth, Jr. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2014, in the Henry Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Verona United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 47, Verona, VA 24482.
