JOE B. SMILEY, SR. ROCKBRIDGE BATHS, VA Joe Bailey Smiley, Sr., 78, of 46 Brownsburg Turnpike, Rockbridge Baths, died Saturday, April 4, 2015, at his residence. He was born on June 19, 1936, in Rockbridge County, a son of the late James D., Sr. and Willie Mae (Fox) Smiley. Joe worked on the family farm most of his life, until the farm was sold after the death of both parents. He then worked on farms for Steve Heffinfinger and other farmers when needed until retiring. He had a wonderful sense of humor and made others laugh with his wisecracks, Jokes, and stories. He loved children. He liked playing games with them and seeing them have fun. He liked to go fishing and gardening. He enjoyed helping others and giving them things from his garden. He was truly "a country man"! He is survived by a daughter, June Smiley; three grandsons, R. L. May of Stuarts Draft, and Jacob and Justin Smiley of Millboro; two great-granddaughters of Stuarts Draft; five sisters, Maxine Nutty, Phyllis Gibson, Betty Huffman, Patsy Crosby, all of Staunton, and Alice Shull, of Fairfield; three sisters-in-law, Virginia Smiley, Dee Smiley and Shirley Smiley; a daughter-in-law, Teresa Smiley; a number of nieces and nephews, a special great nephew, Cody Huffman; special friends, Ray Lotts, Kenny Cale, and Jason and Jen Hall and sons. He was preceded in death by a son, Joe Bailey Smiley, Jr.; four brothers, James, Jr., Kenneth, Samuel and Wallace Smiley; and two nephews, Michael Smiley and Wallace Smiley, Jr. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 8, 2015 in New Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery by Rev. John Peterson. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Henry Funeral Home.
