JOEL A. CLARK STAUNTON, VA Mr. Joel Anthony Clark, 60, husband of Bonnie (Swartz) Clark, of 2080 Old Greenville Road, died Thursday, August 13, 2015 at his residence. He was born on August 21, 1954 in Staunton, a son of the late Hurley A. and Sarah (Bittle) Clark. Mr. Clark was a self-employed contractor and a member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church. After graduating from Riverheads High School, Joe started his own construction business building numerous homes in Augusta and Rockbridge Counties. Joe loved the outdoors, especially spending time with his family, trips to Smith Mountain Lake, boating and fishing. Joe also enjoyed restoring John Deere tractors. In addition to enjoying his family, he enjoyed playing frisbie with his "Best Friend, Burley". In addition to his wife, surviving family members include two sons, Jacob Austin Clark and Roger Lee Swartz, both of Staunton; a daughter and son-in-law, Casey and Caleb Allen of Staunton; two grandchildren, Madison and Lillian Swartz; two brothers, Donald Clark of Staunton and Kyle Clark of Myrtle Beach; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Mike Schooley of Staunton, and Nancy and Larry Turner of Mt. Sidney; and his beloved dog, Burley. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2015 in Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church by Pastor JoAnn Bunn. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Bruce Lamond, Jimmy Callison, Rick Small, Butch Heiner, Greg Clark and Milton Grady. Honorary pallbearers will be men of the church. The family will receive friends at the residence anytime. Memorials may be sent to Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, 334 Mt. Tabor Road, Staunton, VA 24401. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
