JOHN A. CLEM IV STAUNTON, VA John A. Clem IV, 77, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, August 3, 2015 at his residence. He was born May 13, 1938, at Staunton, a son of the late John A. Clem III and Dorothy (Shott) Clem. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, attended Emory and Henry College, was a graduate of Shenandoah College and Conservatory of Music, and an Alumnus Board Member of Shenandoah University. He was an alumnus of Bridgewater College. He received his GRI (Graduate Realtors Institute) designation in Real Estate from the University of Virginia, and received a C.R.S. (Certified Residential Specialist) designation. He also taught Real Estate classes at UVA Realtor Institute. A past member of the Staunton-Augusta County Board of Realtors, the Virginia Association of Realtors, Realtor National Marketing Institute, and the National Association of Realtors. John held a Real Estate Brokers License and various insurance licenses. He was president of Clem and Company, Inc., where he was associated for over 40 years. He is a past president of the Staunton-Augusta County Board of Realtors, a past director of the Virginia Association of Realtors, a former trustee of Realtors Institute of Virginia, and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and was the drummer in the choir. He served on the Alumni Board of Shenandoah University. He was a past member of Staunton Rotary Club with 32 years of perfect attendance. He was a Paul Harris Fellow. Also, a past member of the Augusta Agricultural and Industrial Exposition Board (EXPO) where he served 6 years on the Board of Directors, and served in many other local organizations. John was a life member of the National Model Railroading Association, a life member of the Virginia Train Collectors Association, and a life member of Virginia Train Collectors, Lionel Railroader Club, Lionel Collectors Club of America, and C&O Historical Society. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Lelia (Jamison) Clem; two daughters, Dorothy C. Jacks and Sarah C. Melton; two sons, John A. Clem V and Robert J. Clem; two sons-in-law, Terry Jacks and Michael Melton; a daughter-in-law, Dawn Clem; grandchildren, M. Jason Melton (Brittany Melton), Robert Jacks, Shawn Melton, Holly Clem, John A. Clem VI, Heather Clem, Anna Clem, Amber Clem and Josie Clem; a great grandson, Brayden Melton; a brother and wife, Chesley D. Clem and Barbara Clem; and one nephew and niece. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 7, 2015 at the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Wade Munford and Rev. Bryson Smith, with visitation one hour before the service. Burial will be private at Thornrose Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Paul P. Vames, Jerry F. Lambert, Clarence Forsyth, Lewis Safriet, Donnie Mann, and Michael Clem. Honorary pallbearers will be: Tommy Vames, Samuel H. Clem, William S. Clem, Joe Glovier, and Claude Crawford, and members of the Adult Fellowship Sunday School Class and Men's Brotherhood of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to caregivers Tom Miller, Regina Corbin, Monica Larkin, Faye Taylor (Home Instead for Seniors) and Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah. At his request, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 2000 Shutterlee Mill Road, Staunton, VA 24401, Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah, P.O. Box 215, Fishersville, VA 22939, or to a ministry of your choice. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
