John Lawrence Garber Jr.

JOHN L. GARBER JR. STAUNTON, VA John Lawrence Garber, Jr., 82, husband of Audrey Coffey Garber of 147 Pleasant View Road, died Saturday, November 8, 2014 at his residence. He was born November 1, 1932, in Staunton, a son of the late J. Lawrence and Martha J. (Wilberger) Garber. John was a graduate of Wilson Memorial High School, Shenandoah College, and attended Madison College. Mr. Garber was Pastor at Hiner Church of the Brethren in McDowell and was also consumer sales manager for Lowe's and Staunton Building Supply. He volunteered for 19 years at Sherando Lake and loved music, reading, and woodworking. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. In addition to his wife of 50 years, family members include two daughters and sons-in-law, Dana and David Tacy of Verona and Suzanne and Jesse Campbell of Staunton; a brother, Rev. William Garber and wife, LaVonne, of Edinburg; a sister, Jo Layman and husband, Byard, of Bridgewater; five grandchildren, Brent Tacy and wife, Jamie, Amber Tacy, Kristin Johnston, Ryan Campbell, and Kaitlyn Campbell; two great grandchildren, Jaiden and Parker Johnston; and a special dog, Izzy. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Evick. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Calvary Baptist by Pastor Bobby Campbell. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Brent Tacy, Ryan Campbell, Jesse Campbell, David Tacy, Bruce Goodman, and Cliff Mullins. Honorary pallbearers will be Marshall Braylo, Glenn Fulwider, Buck Brown, Charles Varner, the Senior Servants of Calvary, and special family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, November 10, 2014 at Calvary Baptist Church. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
