John Macdow Herndon, Jr.

JOHN M. HERNDON, JR. STAUNTON, VA John McAdow Herndon, Jr., of Staunton, died Thursday, December 25, 2014. He was born June 27, 1947, in Staunton, a son of the late John McAdow, Sr., and Frances (MacLachlan) Herndon. John was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and Lynchburg College, a lifelong resident of Staunton, and, later in life, employed at Walmart. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he had served as a ruling Elder, as well as being an active member of the Staunton Lions Club and a life member and former president of the Staunton Jaycees. Also known as Huck, he loved golf and was Staunton junior golf champion and a member of the varsity golf team at Lee High. He enjoyed going to Staunton Braves baseball games and the summer concerts at the Gypsy Hill Park bandstand. Family members include a sister, Judy Herndon. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Gano Herndon, and longtime companion, Betty Bishop. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2014,in the Chapel at First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Mary Johns. Memorials may be made to the Staunton Lions Club, P.O.
