John Earl Keller

JOHN EARL “PAPAJOHN” KELLER 7/5/26 – 10/3/17   John Earl “PapaJohn” Keller died peacefully in his sleep at home on October 3, 2017 in Staunton, VA at the age of 91. PapaJohn is survived by 3 children, Donna Kathleen Keller, John Michael Keller & his wife Anne, Linda Kristine Keller Alger & fiancé Bob Thacker, 6 grandchildren, Christopher Michael Keller & his wife Tiffany, Staci Linn Alger, Thomas Hunter Alger & his wife Misty, Daniel Lee Alger & his wife Christina, Michael David Keller, & Jonathan Andrew Keller, & 5 great-grandchildren, Troy Philip Smith, Gavin Michael Keller, Hunter Lee Alger, David Ashton Alger, & Cierra Garvin as well as several nieces & nephews.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Anita Mae Firesheets Keller, his son Richard Scott Keller, his brother Joseph Leo Keller, & sisters Mary Louise Keller & Josephine Mildred Keller Williams. John was born on July 5, 1926 in Henrico, Virginia to Mary Pansy Young & Joseph Lewis Keller.  He joined the Navy at 17 years of age & spent 3 years serving during World War II.  He worked for Pitney Bowes, Inc. for 38 years as a field service technician first in Richmond & then transferred to Staunton to take over the Shenandoah Valley service territory. He earned an associate degree in Electronics from Blue Ridge Community College to further his career. John was accomplished at fixing most anything that needed fixing and loved helping anyone who needed or asked for it. He was a witty individual who loved all things humorous, often to his wife’s annoyance (which would end up making it all the more humorous). He is remembered by his children as a kind, gentle, patient father who encouraged them to pursue their goals.  He always put his family first & did everything he could to provide comfort & security.  He was seen as a man of principle who stood up for what he believed in; as someone who was liked & respected by many people, not only because he was fun to be with but because he went out of his way to do things for others.  He was loved & admired by his family more than words can say.  No one in the family can remember ever having met or heard of anyone who didn’t enjoy John Earl’s company.  Everyone who knew him thought highly of him & was blessed for having had the experience. A celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday, October 14th, at Kristi Alger’s home.  All are welcome to attend and celebrate John’s life with remembrances of happy times & stories.  The family would like to thank his nurse, Monique McEniry, & Hospice of the Shenandoah for their care & dedication during his illness with cancer.  Condolences can be sent to www.henryfuneralhome.net & his full obituary can be viewed there as well.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of the Shenandoah, c/o Augusta Health Foundation, PO Box 1000, Fishersville, VA 22939 or online at https://augustahealth.thankyou4caring.org/?fund=31
