John Lester Long, Jr.

STAUTON, VA John Lester Long, Jr., 79, husband of Susan (Whistleman) Long, of Greeview Drive, died Friday, February 27, 2015 at his residence. He was born on May 12, 1935 in McGaheysville, the son of John L., Sr. and Elsie (Wagner) Long. Mr. Long served four years in the US Navy and retired from GE/Genicom. He is survived by a son, John L. Long, III (Cheryl) of Grottoes; a daughter, Patti Irvine of McGaheysville; two sisters, Gwen Foltz of McGaheysville and Paula Heater of Grotttoes; a brother, Larry Long (Sue) of Grottoes; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 4, 2015 in Augusta Memorial Park by Rev. Howard Miller. Augusta-Staunton VFW Post 2216 will conduct military honors at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 3, 2015 in Henry Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
